This policy explains what information is collected when you visit shieldnook.com (“ShieldNook”, “we”, “us”), why, and the choices you have.
The short version: we collect as little as possible, we don’t sell or share your personal information, and we don’t use advertising trackers.
Information we collect
When you visit the site
Like every website, our hosting provider’s servers automatically receive basic technical information when you load a page, such as your IP address, browser type, device type and the page you requested. This is used only to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse.
We don’t currently use analytics or advertising trackers. If we add analytics in the future, we’ll choose a privacy-friendly option and update this policy before it goes live.
When you email us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to reply and keep it only as long as needed.
When you join our email list
Email sign-ups aren’t open yet. When they open, we’ll use your email address only to send what you signed up for (such as the 10-Minute Security Checkup and occasional updates). Every email will include an unsubscribe link, and we’ll name the email service we use on this page before sign-ups open.
Comments
Comments are turned off, so we don’t collect any comment data.
Cookies
- We don’t set advertising or tracking cookies. WordPress, the software that runs this site, sets cookies only for logged-in site administrators. Our host may use strictly necessary technical cookies to keep the site running.
- Affiliate links: when you click an affiliate link and visit a partner’s website, that partner may set its own cookie to record that you came from ShieldNook, so we can be credited if you buy. Those cookies are covered by the partner’s own privacy policy.
Third-party services we use
- Hosting: EasyWP by Namecheap hosts this website.
- Fonts: our typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when the page loads. See Google’s privacy policy.
- Email: our inbox is provided by Proton Mail.
- Affiliate partners and other websites: sites we link to have their own privacy policies. We’re not responsible for their practices, so please review them.
How we use information
- To deliver the website and keep it secure.
- To reply to your messages.
- To send emails you’ve asked for, once sign-ups open.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, the EU or UK under the GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, receive a copy of it, object to or restrict how it’s used, and withdraw consent at any time. We don’t sell or share personal information, so there’s nothing to opt out of.
To make a request, email privacy@shieldnook.com. We’ll respond within 30 days, and we’ll never treat you differently for using your rights. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on our legitimate interests to run and secure the site and reply to messages, and on your consent for marketing emails.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above. Emails are deleted when no longer needed, and if you unsubscribe from our list, we stop emailing you right away.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and we use strong, unique passwords and two-factor login on our accounts. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work hard to protect the little information we hold.
International visitors
Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries, which may have different data protection laws than where you live.
Children
ShieldNook is not directed at children under 16, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be made clear on the site.
